RABIES |
|
Rabies is also known, as Hydrophobia is an acute highly
fatal viral disease of the central nervous system. It is primarily a zoonatic (disease
of animal) disease of warm-blooded carnivores animals such as dog, cat etc. It is
transmitted to man usually by bites or licks of rabid animals. The virus is excreted
in the saliva of infected animals. It is basically and primarily a zoonosis disease
caused by Y pestis involving rodents and fleas. It existing natural foci and is
transmitted by infected flea bites to human livings or intruding into the same ecological
environment.

DETECTION AND TREATMENT |
|
Early stage: Fever, malice, throat ache, pain and itching
at the site of the bite. Later stage: Wide spread excitation stimulation of all
parts of the nervous system, intolerant to noise, bright light and cold air and
increased savation. Isolation: They are potentially infections become the virus
may be present in saliva, tears, urine, vomits and other body fluids. The person
who attends the patients should observe all precautionary measures like wearing
glucose, masks.

PRECAUTION |
|
Vaccine for immunization of man:One lakh and more dog bites
are reported every year in the state. 90% of these cases are due to stray dog bites.
The duration and dosage of vaccination depends on site and depth of the bite.

FACILITIES
|
1. Anti rabies is available in all the Government Health
Institutions
2. Treatment facility is available in Isolation hospitals in all District Hospitals
and other Major Hospitals of the State.
