KYASANUR FOREST DISEASE
Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) is a febrile disease associated with haemorrhages caused by an arbovirus and transmitted to man by bite of infective ticks. KFD was first recognized in 1957 in Shimoga district of Karnataka state in south India. Local inhabitants called the disease "monkey disease" because of its association with dead monkeys. The disease was later named after the locally Kyasanur Forest from where the virus was first isolated. The disease is now restricted to four districts (Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Chickmagalur) in Karnataka State.
DETECTION AND TREATMENT
The disease appears with a sudden onset of fever, headache and several myalgia, with prostration in some patients. The acute phase lasts about 2weeks,Gastrointestinal disturbances and haemorhages from nose, gums, stomach and intestine may occur in severe cases. Detection is made by examining blood smear of suspected patients.

The spraying must be carried out in "hot spots", i.e. in areas where monkey deaths have been reported, within 50 meters around the spot of the monkey death. Vaccination – 2 doses of vaccination at an interval of one month followed by a booster dose every year. Local application of mylol location on the exposed parts of the body, before entering the forest. Health Education – Avoid to enter into infectious forest area .
