- VIRAL |

It is formally known as infectious hepatic or epidemic
jaundice an acute infectious disease caused by hepatitis – A viral. DETECTION AND
TREATMENT
|
|
The disease is heralded by non-specific symptoms such as
fever, chills, headache, fatigue, generalized weakness, and aches and pains followed
by anorexia, nausea, vomiting, dark urine and jaundice. Although the disease has
in general a low mortality, patients may be in capacitated for many weeks. Infection
with hepatitis – Virus is more found among children than in adults. However, people
from all ages may be infected if, both sexes are equally susceptible. Immunity after
attack probably lasts for life. Cases m ay occur through out the year. Poor sanitation
and over crowding favors the spread of the infection giving rise to water borne
and food borne epidemics. Detection -A specific laboratory diagnosis of hepatitis
A can be obtained by

a. Demonstration of hepatitis A virus particles is specific
viral antigens in the faces.
b. Demonstration of a rise in anti hepatitis A virus
titer.
c. Detection of IgM antibody to hepatitis A virus in the patient's serum

PRECAUTION |
|
The best means of reducing the spread of infections by
promoting and practicing simple measures like : a. Personal hygiene b. Purification
of community water supply c. improved water treatment and distribution system. During
epidemics boiled and cooled water should be advocated for drinking purpose. e.Proper
Autoclaving of syringes, needles or other equipments. Control of susceptible by
using normal human immunoglobuline. FACILITIES
